John and I made a quick trip to NYC to spend time with Riley. Their end of year architecture projects were on display and we didn’t want to miss.
While there, we did some of our favorite things…..bike rides and running in Central Park, Bryant Park, catching a few shows(Life of Pi and Some Like it Hot) walking the High Line and Chelsea Piers, visiting our favorite vegan restaurants, and MOMA. We took in the 9/11 memorial, and made our way to The Stonewall Inn.
The city was so alive….people everywhere and celebration of PRIDE Month. The energy was amazing.
For a couple of days, the wildfires from Canada made the city look eerily surreal. A quote that stuck with me from a journalist was “looks like Mars, smells like cigars.” It did slow us down a bit as so many things were closed – inside and outside activities. Everyone was wearing masks but opposite of COVID logic – masks only outside not inside.
One of the highlights was exploring our dream of having an extended stay in NYC – I am interested in going to plant based culinary school and John has an interest in music school – so we toured some campuses.
Our most favorite thing was spending time with Riley. Riley just finished her third year of architecture school and is crazy busy with work and finding a new place to live. They are hard working, resourceful, and brave – moving to NYC to follow their dream. And it is so amazing when your kids encourage you to follow your dreams too.
