Woke up early and drove one of the finger lakes, hiked the Taughannock Falls rim and gorge. Not much water, but it was beautiful. From there through the back roads of NY into PA and OH to get us home tonight. The colors in the back roads of NY were definitely at peak. The reds, yellows, oranges, and purples were on fire. I wonder if people who live here have a real appreciation for what they have around them every day in the fall? Because it brings me so much peace, happiness, and grounding.
I am so thankful for….John’s willingness to drive, the trails we were able to hike, the leaves we were able to see. I don’t remember the last vacation I have taken where it was truly like I stepped outside my normal life. I didn’t think about work. I didn’t set the alarm, but my body works up at 7 or so each day. It felt like learning so many new things (how to cook, how to clean myself, where to sleep, how to function). It reminded me a lot of our our move to France where we had to struggle for basic needs until we got comfortable. It has been exciting, exhilarating, and a good time for reflection and learning.
